May 19th, 2010

Environmentally friendly paint, that was a long term sound. Even in developed countries have made certification for environmentally friendly paint materials. As a user of paint, how to choose a good paint?

The beauty is usually always in conflict with the safety and health. This calls can be found in many aspects of life. For example in the world of beauty. Cosmetic products that can make a face or a face as smooth as a china doll quickly contain many heavy metals or mercury levels high enough. Mercury in cosmetics can cause skin changes, skin irritation, allergies, permanent damage to the nervous system, kidneys, brain and fetal development problems.

Things like that can be found also in the world of architecture. Paint is a material that has a function as a protector and giver of beauty on the surface of the object color. Technological advances have enabled the presence of paint applied easier, the more smooth and flat result, the brighter the color, are also increasingly able to resist bacterial and fungal attacks.

The problem that arises is, to produce a paint that is so beautiful and easily applied to use the materials inhospitable environment and human health. And some basic ingredients are toxic and carcinogenic.

Care for the earht’s survival, advanced countries like America and countries in Europe established a policy in determining the levels of hazardous materials are allowed in the content of the paint. Paint who has fulfilled the standards will be certified and lebeled on the packaging ecofriendly. Then came the term encironmentally friendly paint. One of the standards prescribed today are VOC ( Volatile Organic Compound ) .

Curently there are two standards used for the VOC, namely Europe and America. European standards a little lower than American standards.

The term encironmentally friendly it self contains a broad understanding. There are two aspect that accompany the term ecofriendly, the friendly to the environment and health of users. While the criteria of paint that can be called environmentally friendly two, which has a VOC content as low as possible and does not contain carcinogenic materials.

How Indonesia ? Standardization of the amount of azardous materials in the paint, not yet. Still in the process by the Ministry of Environment.

Until now there has been no single intitution had the right to officially provide the certification. Eco friendly and friendly environment in Indonesia is not mandatory or compulsory, so the paint manufacturer in Indonesia is still voluntary.

Due the lack of standardization, the paint manufacturers were free to clain their products as environmentally friendly paint. Not a few who complete it with environmentally friendly label. If you have this, consumers should choose smart. Because the material for the environmentally friendly, too friendly to humand health. So choose a minimum of paint that may contain toxic materials that we care for the earth and love yourself and family.
